Queens View Harbour Marks 80th Anniversary of VE Day with Heartfelt Celebration

Residents at Queens View Harbour Care Home came together to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day with a moving and memorable celebration that honoured the courage and sacrifice of those who served during the Second World War.
The care home was transformed for the occasion, with a traditional street party-themed lunch enjoyed by all. Residents tucked into a delightful spread of homemade scones and sandwiches, surrounded by festive Union Jack decorations that brought a touch of nostalgia and national pride to the celebration.
Following lunch, residents were treated to a musical tribute featuring wartime favourites such as “We’ll Meet Again” and “The White Cliffs of Dover.” The familiar melodies sparked joy and reflection, transporting many back to a time of shared resilience and unity.
The event served not only as a tribute to the bravery of the wartime generation but also as an opportunity for residents to share their own memories and experiences. VE Day holds a special significance for many at Queens View Harbour, offering a chance to recall stories from their younger years and to honour those they knew who played a part in the war effort.
“VE Day is deeply meaningful for our residents,” said a member of the care team. “It’s a day that encourages storytelling and memory recall, and gives them a strong sense of pride in their past. It’s about remembering, but also about bringing joy and connection in the present.”
The celebration exemplified the spirit of community that defines Queens View Harbour Care Home. By bringing together residents, staff and families, the event sparked conversation, created shared moments, and honoured a defining chapter in history in a truly personal way.
As the music played and laughter filled the air, it was clear that VE Day 2025 was more than just a commemoration — it was a day that brought the past to life and reminded everyone of the enduring strength found in togetherness.
